thank you for this thoughtful essay....turning 75 and coming from a strong catholic background (which I totally emerged myself in and as an adult totally rejected) I still emerged with faith and belief we are all connected and death is of the body only. I find peace in that awareness.

I like the way you frame the answer to a question I often ponder: why are religious faith and spiritual belief systems so universal across time in human cultures? Faith and belief could be emergent phenomena that address questions of meaning, purpose, and the divine, not directly testable by empirical methods. They bridge the gap between available information and full certainty. Another view: they are a way of framing direct, personal, mystical experiences of a transcendent reality that may defy or transcend rational explanation.
